Get your kicks from Karting!
On the motor sport circuit, Karting is one of the fastest-growing forms of enjoying speed, competition and thrills.
Try it for yourself and there’ll be no going back – take JJR Motorsport protégée Lewis Adamson the up and coming young Karting star who is competing at NKF (Northern Karting Federation) level after just two short years in the driving seat.
For some, Karting is the first rung on the ladder to Formula 1 racing – watch this space as far as Lewis Adamson of JJR Motorsport is concerned!
Did you know…
Karting originates from America in the 1950s, although by the 60s European engine manufacturers were growing in popularity and the sport was becoming a pan-European pastime and sport.
McColloch – the leading American Kart engine manufacturer – was bought out by Black & Decker in the 70s (although bizarrely the company had no interest in Karting engines!)
In the late 70s modern kart designs were emerging – although the engines were situated at the side of the kart rather than at the back.
The Northern Karting Federation
Commonly known as the NKF, the Northern Karting Federation is a clubman championship geared at offering the Club driver the opportunity to compete in a championship without having to pick up all the costs in entries and travel.
The idea behind the Northern Karting Federation is that Championship contenders race in the club grids, helping smaller clubs at their meetings whilst giving drivers a decent grid to race in.
NKF competitors race against each other only, gaining points (which are not transferable or used outside of the NKF).
The National Karting Federation is well knuown for its prestigious Formula 125 ICC UK and Formula 250 National Super 4 championship. The grids for this event grow stronger each year and 2009 looks pretty spectacular.
NKF v AbkC
While the AbkC S4 Championship runs over 6 rounds with the 5 best scoring for the championship, the NKF Championship is run over 7 rounds with the best 5 scoring. Our competitors enjoy greater flexibility in the rounds and more the stakes are not quite so high.
